Message From The President & CEO
There's More to be done!
BBBSMD volunteers, staff and Board of Directors are excited about the success we have achieved during
the beginning of 2008. But where do we go from here? We are very clear that today's youth are experiencing
serious challenges, some are not achieving their academic potential and many will not realize the brighter
futures to which they should be entitled. The reality is that more children are in need of positive role
models, trusted friend, or a caring adult in their lives.
Nationally and locally, we have implemented a call-to-action crusade to change the
way our children grow up in America through a "Campaign for Men" and our successful "100" Mentors in 100
Days Campaign."
Through a national partnership between BBBSA and Comcast, during the months of August, September, and
October, our "Men In Need" ad will air in all Comcast cable markets on male-targeted channels such as
ESPN, ESPN2, FX, CNN, USA, TBS, TNT, BET and Comedy Central. Fifty-five spots per week will be aired.
Please stay tuned and look out for these mail-centered recruitment spots. However, there's more to
be done!
Mentoring remains a proven solution to the many issues facing youth in our communities. A typical
match between a mentor and a child costs upward of $1,000. Contrast that with the price tag to
incarcerate a young person at $43,000 per year. We are making a sustainable difference in children's
lives and ask for your continued financial support. Your tax-deductible donation goes toward the training
and support services that are crucial to sustaining a match which translates to positive outcomes.
Remember, there's more to be done. Become involved because the life you change may be your own!
