Addressing Racial Disparities of COVID-19: A Message from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
From our friends at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan:
All of us at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are alarmed by the statistics highlighting racial disparities as they relate to the coronavirus in our Michigan communities. It appears that African American, Hispanic/Latino and other vulnerable communities have been hit the hardest by this pandemic. These populations tend to experience underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease, among other conditions.
We recognize that educating the community can help prevent people from getting and spreading the virus.
To help communities inform their residents about the coronavirus, we’ve developed a one-page electronic flier that you can post on your website, distribute via email and post on social media. It provides information about COVID-19, testing and treatment options, what to do if someone gets the virus and needs to go to the hospital, and much more.
Blue Cross is committed to addressing this short-term need as it relates to COVID-19, but also is addressing health and health care disparities from a long-term and systemic perspective through our Health Disparities Action Team.
