Program Update - November 2021

Fall Fun -

Our youth enjoyed the Greenfield Village Hallowe'en Event. Youth and their mentors got a chance to experience a fun evening, including the Hallowe'en Express train ride. From harvest markets and fall themes to costumed storybook characters and ghostly performances, this 40-plus-year Hallowe’en tradition is one of a kind, showcased within the bewitching setting of Greenfield Village after hours. Matches were able to stroll through the village at their own pace, picking and choosing their own festive or frightful experiences.

We are so grateful for community partners like The Henry Ford for providing amazing experiences for our youth!

School Ready -

The GM tutoring program kicked off in late October with around 35 Littles getting tutored by 34 GM tutors. They will meet weekly on virtual platforms from October until June with the tutors focusing on helping the Littles increase their academic performance in all core subjects and even delving into college advising for the high school Littles.

Thanks to all of our incredible tutors for sharing their time, guidance, and expertise with our Littles!

Youth Book Club -

The Book Club finished their summer reading series with "The New Kid" by Jerry Craft. Mackenzie Gibson from YanFeng led 13 different Littles through this impactful graphic novel. Participating youth were able to sharpen their reading skills and comprehension.

The Fall Book club will start in early November with the book "Spirit Hunter" by Ellen Oh. The Book Club meets virtually over Zoom twice a month.
