The Delta Dental Spotlight on Civility - Centering Youth, provided an opportunity for young people to engage in a conversation about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion with business and civic leaders in metro Detroit.
“Our society must have tough, but civil conversations about our history and where we’re going now and into the future’, said Margaret Trimer, VP. Strategic Initiatives for Delta Dental. “Everyone’s voice should be heard, especially our youth’, continued Trimer who started the Spotlight on Civility initiative during the social unrest in 2020.
The small group conversations with youth took place over 6 weeks, set in locations throughout metro Detroit, including The Henry Ford Justice and Liberty for All exhibit, the Detroit 67 exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum, Focus Hope and Collected Detroit’s .
The learnings from the facilitated conversations will help Big Brothers Big Sisters shape its programming to ensure all youth feel empowered, seen and heard as they step into an ever increasingly diverse, yet still divided world.
