Step Up BIG Detroit!

On January 20, 2021, a few weeks after a violent mob took over the Capitol, and mere months after the murder of George Floyd captured the world’s attention, a petite young woman stepped up to a mic in Washington, D.C. and reminded us that “...quiet isn’t always peace, and the norms and notions of what just is isn’t always just-ice”. Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman defined our moment in history to Step Up BIG and do something to end racial and social injustice. She also embodied the spirit of thousands of marginalized youth who, despite the effects of adversity, do achieve success in life.


In August, we launched our Step Up BIG Detroit! fundraising campaign to lean into action and make an impact on building social equity for youth. At our campaign kick off, we rallied together to take the first step in this community-wide effort and pledge to focus on our shared goals as we work together to bring about real change and impact the lives of youth in Metro Detroit for the better, forever.
